FAQ

Do I need permission to fundraise?

Yes. As we are a not for profit, it is a legal requirement that anyone collecting funds on our behalf must be officially registered. It’s really easy!

If you are fundraising online, you will be given your own profile page on our website which is all you will need. However if you are organising a physical event then you will also need to complete a fundraising application form letting us know what you have planned.

All fundraising activities must be legal, ethical and not involve any industries that are in conflict with the values and purpose of CFCC. Once your fundraising activity is approved, you will receive an Authority to Fundraise letter confirming that you’re ready to begin!

Do I need permits or a license when fundraising?

This will depend upon your fundraising activity as you may need to organise certain permits and/or licenses. For example:

In Victoria

  • If you expect your activity will raise in excess of $10,000 you need to register with Consumer Affairs Victoria (this is at no cost).
  • If you are running a raffle with a total prize pool valued at over $5,000 you will need to register for a permit through the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation. Their website has a handy guide with more details here.

In NSW

  • If you are running a raffle with a total prize pool valued at over $30,000 you will need to register for a permit with NSW Fair Trading

For either NSW or Victoria if your event is being held in a public place please check with your local council for any permits that you may require, e.g. handling food.

Am I covered by CFCC’s insurance for my event?

Regrettably this is not possible. All insurance cover required, e.g. public liability or wet weather insurance for outdoor events is the responsibility of the fundraiser. CFCC must be released from all responsibility and be indemnified against any liability for any injury, accident, or other loss whether physical or financial.

Can I use the CFCC logo?

Whilst you cannot use the official CFCC logo, we have created a CFCC Proud Supporter logo which is available once you have successfully completed your fundraising application and received your Authority to Fundraise letter.

To discuss the use of the CFCC Proud Supporter logo please contact us at marketing@cfcc.org.au

Will CFCC help promote my fundraiser?

Wherever possible CFCC will promote your fundraiser via our website and social media channels where we can celebrate and share fundraising campaigns and stories.

It’s important to note that any media opportunities requiring information about CFCC must be passed on to marketing@cfcc.org.au

My fundraiser is complete, what happens next?

For all online fundraising:

  • If you are fundraising online, all funds are securely deposited directly into CFCC via our website. All donors will receive an automated receipt. You will not need to worry about sending receipts – all of your donors will receive an automated tax deductible receipt on your behalf. Once your online fundraising campaign is complete, you will receive an appreciation certificate by email for your efforts and if you would like us to keep you updated with the support services we provide for people living with cystic fibrosis we shall include you in our supporter journey communications.

Events:

  • On completion of your event, contact a member of the CFCC Marketing and Fundraising team to arrange the deposit of funds raised. Please do not deposit the funds via the website donation form.
Are all donations tax deductible?

Online fundraising:

  • Your online page is for direct donations only and a tax deductible receipt is issued immediately to all donors. You cannot accept payment for goods and services via your online fundraising page.

Events:

  • Individual tax deductible receipts can be issued by CFCC for monetary donations of $2 or more, a list detailing names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and donation amounts will be required. Tax deductible receipts cannot be issued for sponsorship, ticket purchases, event entry, donation of good and services, raffle tickets and auction prizes.
Do I need to be over 18 years old to fundraise?

No, all ages are eligible to fundraise and we welcome and appreciate everyone who fundraises on behalf of CFCC for people living with cystic fibrosis. If you are under 18, please ensure you have the consent of a parent or guardian.

How can’t I fundraise?

Fundraisers must not solicit donations through door to door appeals, street collections or telephone solicitation to the public. In the case of CFCC holding a fundraising campaign which includes street collections then the organisation will supply a permit and ID to volunteers who would like to fundraise for that campaign.

Where does the money go?

All funds donated are used to support people living with cystic fibros in New South Wales and Victoria. This includes increasing health and wellness outcomes, providing clinically endorsed equipment to promote optimum health and reducing lengthy hospitalisations, emergency relief subsidies to reduce the need to delay or forgo essential treatment and care and providing advocacy, support and educational resources to maximise learning and overcome barriers.

Once I’m a Cystic Fibrosis Hero am I always a Cystic Fibrosis Hero?

You absolutely are! Our wish would be for this milestone to be remembered as the beginning of meaningful, supportive and deeply rewarding fundraising relationship together. Our fundraisers are the lifeblood of our organisation. We appreciate and value them enormously as without them we cannot provide our essential support services to people living with cystic fibrosis. In our journey together we will provide ongoing support, encouragement and ‘be with you’ every step of the way to ensure you and your fundraising activities and campaigns are a success each year. We appreciate that there are moments when you may need to break and we respect that and you can be assured when you are ready to return you’ll be welcomed back with open arms!! No matter what you will always be a Cystic Fibrosis Hero to us.
